Understanding PfR
Psycho-Functional Unblocking is a modern body-oriented method. Here you will learn how it works and why it is effective.
What exactly is PfR?
PfR stands for Psycho-Functional Unblocking. It is an independent method that combines insights from neurophysiology, body psychotherapy, hypnotherapeutic abreaction, and work with the subconscious.
The basic idea: our body stores experiences - not only in the mind, but in the muscles, the tissue, the nervous system. Trauma, stress and unresolved conflicts leave physical traces. Even when we have understood them rationally, they can continue to act on the physical level.
PfR begins exactly there: through targeted body work, these stored tensions are activated and gently released. Without force, without endless analysis. The body finds its own way to resolution.
Scientific foundations
PfR is not an esoteric method, but is based on solid findings from neuroscience and psychophysiology:
Muscle memory
According to Sechenov, muscles store emotional experiences. PfR uses this knowledge to access the subconscious through the body.
Conditioned reflexes
Pavlov's research on conditioned responses explains why automated patterns arise - and how they can be released through targeted impulses.
Mirror neurons
Bekhterev's work on collective response patterns forms the basis for the meta-message used at the beginning of each session.
Somatic Experiencing
Peter Levine's approach to trauma integration shows that the body can find its way to healing through natural discharge responses - a core principle of PfR.
The four phases of a session
Every PfR session takes place over 3 days of 2 to 3 hours each and follows a clear, safe sequence.
Meta-message
A short video stimulus activates your mirror neurons and prepares the subconscious for safe processing.
Verbal attunement
Mindful conversation creates a safe space. Targeted questions map the topic.
Dynamic phase
Your body takes the lead. Spontaneous reactions release stored tensions and old patterns.
Integration
In the closing conversation, the new body sensation is anchored and carried into everyday life.
What to expect
- You remain fully in control of the process at all times
- Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing
- Avoid caffeine for 24 hours beforehand and alcohol for 3 days
- The first effects typically appear after 3 to 5 days
What PfR can help with
Important note: PfR is an independent body-oriented method and does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment. In acute psychological crises, please contact your doctor or Dargebotene Hand (The Outstretched Hand - Swiss crisis helpline) (Tel. 143).
When PfR is not suitable
PfR is not a substitute for psychotherapy or medicine. We take responsibility very seriously and do not work with people whose current situation requires a different framework:
- Acute psychological crises (e.g. severe depression, suicidal thoughts, psychoses)
- Untreated trauma in an acute phase - can lead to overwhelm
- Strong dissociation or loss of contact with reality
- An expectation without personal responsibility ("make me well")
- Active addictions without accompanying therapy
- Acute medical conditions - these belong in medical care first
- Pregnancy - use is carefully assessed depending on method and intensity
PfR works best with stable people who are ready to look inward. If you are unsure whether PfR is suitable for you, we will clarify this together in the free initial consultation.
